Ein Star ist tot – eine Legende wird geboren. Der vorzeitige Tod lässt Stars und Idole unsterblich werden. Die Idole sind auf dem Höhepunkt ihres Ruhmes eingefrorene Vexierbilder der dahinterliegenden Persönlichkeit: für immer jung, schön und verführerisch. Die Videoarbeit erkundet den Mythos des früh verstorbenen Idols und der damit verbundenen Legendenbildung. Das Video »Portrait of the Known Dead« basiert auf Bildern Verstorbener, deren zumeist verfrühter Tod als Medienereignis Teil des kollektiven Gedächtnisses ist oder die über ihren Tod hinaus den Status eines Idols innehaben. Flüchtig betrachtet scheint die Projektion ein Standbild zu sein. Die sanfte Bewegung ist kaum wahrnehmbar.
A star is dead – a legend is born. Premature death makes stars and idols immortal. The idols are at the height of their fame frozen puzzles of the underlying personality: forever young, beautiful and seductive. The video work explores the myth of the late idol and the associated legend formation. The video »Portrait of the Known Dead« is based on images of the deceased, whose mostly premature death as a media event is part of the collective memory or who have the status of an idol beyond their death. Fleetingly, the projection seems to be a still image. The gentle movement is barely perceptible.
